I dedicate this blog to volcanoes and lovely volcanic landscapes. I am not a geologist/volcanologist, just a person who enjoys beautifully rough and majestic volcanic scenery. The feeling of being in such an unpredictable and often dangerous area is certainly distinct and unforgettable. All photos by Bart.K

Gyali (Yali) Island, 7th June 2015
Gyali (also spelled Yali or Yiali) is a small volcanic island between Kos and Nisyros. It consists of ryolithic lava domes, pumice deposits which are mined (in fact Gyali is the third largest pumice mine on Earth) and two beaches. Northeastern part of Yali is almost entirely made of obsidian and the southwestern part of pumice. No holocene eruptions. Various pics of Gyali from the boat and Kardamaina.
