I dedicate this blog to volcanoes and lovely volcanic landscapes. I am not a geologist/volcanologist, just a person who enjoys beautifully rough and majestic volcanic scenery. The feeling of being in such an unpredictable and often dangerous area is certainly distinct and unforgettable. All photos by Bart.K

Kos island/ volcano, June 2015
Kos volcano consists of lava dome Mount Zini close to Kamari beach, old caldera Kamari plus various solfatara fields along the coasts. Layers of pumice deposits are clearly visible around Kefalos. The large submerged caldera was created by the huge Kos supervolcano explosion around 160 000 years BP. This huge eruption destroyed stratovolcano between Kos and Nisyros islands and generated voluminous pyroclastic flows. No volcanic eruptions on Kos island during holocene.
