I dedicate this blog to volcanoes and lovely volcanic landscapes. I am not a geologist/volcanologist, just a person who enjoys beautifully rough and majestic volcanic scenery. The feeling of being in such an unpredictable and often dangerous area is certainly distinct and unforgettable. All photos by Bart.K

Exploding lake Tobellus Small (Tobellus Maly)
Lake Tobellus Small lies very close to its bigger neighbour Tobellus Big near Stanczyki village, Suwalszczyzna, Poland. Tobellus Small lake is not volcanic - it's a perfect example of kettle hole, a hollow (typically filled by a lake) that results from the melting of a mass of ice trapped in glacial deposits. Tobellus Maly exploded during the afternoon of 30th June/or 31st May 1926. Upcoming storm caused an explosion of methane gas trapped at the bottom of the lake. There was a huge blast and a big fountain of mud. The lake disappeared and re-appeared again after two months. According to local tales the eruption of methane gas killed some people, but I can't truly verify this information.
So not only Cameroon have exploding lakes (Nyos, Monoun). Poland have one too!
