Abandoned prison on Procida Island, 03.06.2019

Procida is pretty famous island which according to Wikipedia was created by eruption of four volcanoes, currently dormant and submerged. Procida and Vivara are actually an extension of the Campi Flegrei volcanic complex in Napoli. Procida with its tiny satellite island Vivara lies between Capo Miseno and Ischia. Vivara = the remains of old volcanic crater. Apart from visiting small fishing village La Corricella with its vibrantly colorful housing I explored abandoned prison on Procida. Here are some photos from this dilapidated prison complex. It lies on Terra Murata, the highest hill (tuff cone) on the island. This is a fortress which was built by the Bourbons and which housed the ancient island prison. Two famous movies "Il Postino" by Michael Radford filmed in 1994 and "The Talented Mr Ripley" by Anthony Minghella in 1999 were shot on Procida. Population of Procida: 11 000 people. https://www.napoliunplugged.com/procida.html
