I dedicate this blog to volcanoes and lovely volcanic landscapes. I am not a geologist/volcanologist, just a person who enjoys beautifully rough and majestic volcanic scenery. The feeling of being in such an unpredictable and often dangerous area is certainly distinct and unforgettable. All photos by Bart.K

Fumarole Il Cretaio on Monte Rotaro, Ischia, 02.06.2019
So I finally found my first fumarole on Ischia called Il Cretaio. The Cretaio hill is also important from a geological point of view as it bears numerous sedimentary traces of the eruptions that occurred over the millennia on the island of Ischia. The volcanism that affects the area is less than 10,000 years old, roughly from 350 to. C. up to the sadly famous Arso lava flow of 1301 which originated from the nearby hill of Fiaiano.
