I dedicate this blog to volcanoes and lovely volcanic landscapes. I am not a geologist/volcanologist, just a person who enjoys beautifully rough and majestic volcanic scenery. The feeling of being in such an unpredictable and often dangerous area is certainly distinct and unforgettable. All photos by Bart.K

Vulcano Island, Italy, 6th May 2015
Vulcano is along with Stromboli the only active volcano of Aeolian Islands. Its last explosive eruption happened in 1888-90, unconfirmed eruption in 1892. Stromboli volcano erupts almost constantly, Vulcano is dormant but it has plenty of active fumaroles on the rim of Grand Cratere of La Fossa volcanic cone (391 m.) Vulcano has given name to all volcanoes in the world. So-called Vulcanian style of volcanic activity is also connected to Vulcano. One the photos you can see also smaller cone of Vulcanello (123 m.), which I wanted to climb but didn't. The village of Vulcano Porto lies very close to La Fossa cone.
On the way to Vulcano (Grand Cratere, La Fossa cone).
