Nea Kameni is a recent active volcanic center of Santorini. Effusive eruptions happened on Nea Kameni in 1570, 1707-1710, 1866-1870, 1925-1926, 1939-1941 and 1950. The submarine Columbo volcano lies seven km NE of Santorini. Its eruption in 1649-50 killed 70 people on Santorini. As one can see many lava flows on Nea Kameni plus several well-preserved craters.
